1. You only accept 7 applicants annually- that is really competitive. My GPA is not 3.5, should I even bother applying?

2. Is the Master's degree mandatory to this internship program? Can I just do the dietetic internship by itself if I prefer?

3. I have only spent a few months volunteering in a hospital, is that ok?

4. Can I work during the internship?

5. Do you have time to enjoy NYC living?

As long as your cumulative GPA is greater than 3.0, definitely apply. We look at much more than just GPA, like work experience, professional skills, recommendations, etc.

2.  Is the Master's degree mandatory to this internship program? Can I just do the dietetic internship by itself if I prefer?

During the 12 month internship portion of our program, dietetic interns are required to complete 15 graduate credits towards a Master's degree in Clinical Nutrition from NYU's Department of Nutrition and Food Studies. Interns are not required to complete the remaining credits/Master's degree at NYU, but the majority do.

3.  I have only spent a few months volunteering in a hospital, is that ok?

We like to see as much time in nutrition related fieldwork as possible, but as long as you can show you have sought nutrition related experiences, even if only for a shorter period of time, that€™s ok. It€™s definitely still worth applying.

4.  Can I work during the internship?

It is definitely not recommended to work during the internship. In addition to projects and home work you receive from the internship, you will have home work and projects from NYU too. Remember though, you receive a stipend from your internship, which might be about equal to the money you would earn working a part-time job.

5.  Do you have time to enjoy NYC living?

While you are definitely busy during your internship, good time management skills should allow you time to enjoy NYC. As many of our new interns are new to New York City life, they are AMAZED to find out all that this city has to offer. NYU offers cheap tickets to Broadway plays, the symphony, independent films, and more. During the spring and summer, you can take in a Yankees or Mets baseball game (a short subway ride away). You can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge or window shop on 5th Avenue. There are parades to attend and races to run. And don€™t forget that NYC is home to some of the best restaurants in the country. With easily accessible public transportation, the benefits of the city are within easy reach!
