Life in Memphis

Attractions:

Memphis has a rich history in rock and roll, blues and soul music. Not only can you tour Graceland*, but you can record a song at Sun Studios* where Johnny Cash, Elvis and others recorded their early albums or listen to blues music on Beale Street*.

Memphis also hosts Memphis in May* a collection of events throughout the month of May at Tom Lee Park that includes the Beale Street Music Festival, World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest, and the Sunset Symphony.

You can also take time out to tour the Memphis Zoo*, Botanical Gardens*, Pink Palace Museum*, or Brooks Art Museum*. You can also take a stroll through the Dixon Gallery and Gardens*. The art lover will love trolley night during the summer when the local galleries downtown open up and offer free refreshments.

Living In Memphis:

Memphis is a collection of eclectic neighborhoods. Housing prices are below the national average and rentals are very affordable. Some of the most popular choices for students are Downtown, Mud Island and Midtown. Please contact the internship director if you would like recommendations on apartments. Although there is public transit in the city, it is recommended that you provide your own transportation.
