Mission of the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center's [LSCVAMC] Dietetic Internship Program:
The program will provide a foundation in research and evidence-based nutrition practice, interdisciplinary team experiences, and broad exposure to specialty and advanced level practice to prepare graduates to become entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition, who deliver competent nutritional care to Veterans and the public in a compassionate and ethical manner.
Dietetic Internship Program Goals
The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center's Dietetic Internship Program will:
Goal #1: Prepare graduates to begin professional practice as competent, entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists employed in nutrition therapy, community practice, food service systems management or research by government, public or private sectors.
- Objective #1: At least 80% of program students complete program/degree requirements within 18 months (150% of program length).
- Objective #2: Of graduates who seek employement, 80% are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.
- Objective #3: 100% of program graduates take the CDR dietitian credentialing exam within 12 months of program completion.
- Objective #4: The program's one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%
- Objective #5: Over the ACEND assessment period, 100% of employers, who respond to the program survey, will rate graduates' performance as entry-level or above when surveyed after hiring graduates.
- Objective #6: At least 80% of employers who respond to the program survey, would consider hiring a program graduate in the future.
- Objective #7: ≥25% of graduates will accept positions in the VHA.
Goal #2: Prepare graduates to participate in research and evaluate the impact this has on their careers and employment.
- Objective #1: ≥90% of graduates will rate themselves as at least satisfactorily prepared to conduct research.
- Objective #2: ≥50% of graduates that will respond to a survey will rate completion of a concentration in Research Processes and Application as valuable to their careers.
- Objective #3: ≥5% of employers who respond to a survey will report knowledge of research processes as a factor in hiring graduates.
- Objective #4: ≥5% of employers who respond to a survey will rate graduates as adequately prepared to conduct research.
- Objective #5: At least 95% of graduates who complete the dietetic internship program will earn a Master's Degree.
