To learn more about VA Dietetic Internship Programs please attend a VA Open House Forum. Registration is not needed.
VA sponsored internships provide several unique qualities that make them stand out:
- The VA is a non-profit entity and will not collect money from interns.
- Interns may receive a stipend determined by OAA for required hours.
- Interns are not required to find rotations or preceptors.
- VA provides an outstanding support system to their Program Directors and Preceptors providing a dedicated team and exceptional learning environment that allows for individualized attention and detail to your educational experience.
- The VA will assist with job placement. With 172 VA Medical Centers and 1,138 outpatient sites the VA has various opportunities for entry-level positions throughout the U.S.

Supervised Practice Sites
Interns will not be required to locate their supervised practice sites or preceptors. The VALLHCS Dietetic Internship Program will have all rotation sites and preceptors scheduled and set up for each intern.
Program Schedule:
32 hours per week Tuesday – Friday. Start and end times will vary on rotation and preceptor. An example of time schedules is below:
- Food Service Rotations: 5am – 130pm; 11am – 730pm
- Clinical Rotations: 8am – 430pm
- Management Rotations: 8am – 430pm
- Start date/orientation: August 17, 2026
- Winter & Spring Break: December 21, 2026 – January 2, 2027; March 29 – April 2, 2027
- Holidays: November 27, December 25, 2026; January 1, 2027
- Completion Date: May 7, 2027
