Housing and Living in Los Angeles

The Department of Veterans Affairs does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. The West Los Angeles campus is the primary location for supervised practice rotations; however, interns may also be assigned to rotations at the Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center (approximately 15 miles east of the West LA campus) and the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center and Community Living Center (approximately 15 miles north of the West LA campus) in addition to affiliated sites.

Transportation

A car is strongly recommended for transportation to all rotations, affiliations and off station classes. Parking at the VA Medical Center is free. There is a fee for parking at UCLA. More detailed information about parking at UCLA can be found at https://transportation.ucla.edu/*
Parking information at CSULB can be obtained at http://www.csulb.edu/parking-and-transportation-services*
Parking information at CSUN can be obtained at https://www.csun.edu/parking/*

Informational Technology Requirements

Interns will be issued a VAGLAHS laptop with an integrated camera and microphone that can be used at home and on campus. It is recommended that interns have home internet service with adequate bandwidth to support video teleconferences and all required VA applications (including the electronic health record CPRS, VA Video Connect (VVC), Webex, and Microsoft Office). The estimated cost of home internet is $40-60 monthly. If adequate home internet service is not available, interns will be provided with a work station on the VAGLAHS campus they can use on distance education or telework days.

Financial Assistance
