James J. Peters Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center Dietetic Internship ProgramThe Dietetic Internship Coordinated Masters of Science Degree in Nutrition Program is sponsored by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bronx and coordinated with the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at New York University. Interns complete approximately 1550 hours of supervised practice experiences and 34 graduate credits over 16 months. Our Dietetic Internship offers a nutrition therapy emphasis and provides 51 weeks of practical experiences via rotations in clinical dietetics, food service systems, clinical management, community nutrition and business/industry. The medical center is affiliated with Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and has approved residency training programs in sixteen medical and two dental specialties. In addition to dietetics, JJPVAMC offers graduate and postgraduate training programs in audiology, geriatrics, nursing, psychology, speech pathology, social work, pharmacy, podiatry, rehabilitation therapies and healthcare administration. Dietetic Interns have access to state of the art media rooms for professional presentations, a medical library and shared office space with classmates. This spacious internship study and seminar space offers interns desks and computer access to the on-line medical charting system and reference library. The diverse learning environment fostered at JJPVA is extended to our interns in their graduate studies. At the conclusion of the 16-month program, graduates are awarded a Masters degree from New York University (NYU), one of the most well respected universities in the country, located in Greenwich Village, one of New York City's most energetic and eclectic communities.
